The BBQ

DARREN 'DAZZA' COOK is a loveable suburban everyman with a long-established belief that his family is related to Captain James Cook. Dazza harbours a passion for barbequing, but when he accidentally gives his neighbours food poisoning at his popular regular Saturday BBQ, Dazza's reputation and dignity are on the line. To make amends he seeks tutelage from the tyrannical Scottish chef known simply as THE BUTCHER. Together they enter an international barbecue competition, pitting Dazza's homespun recipes against the world's best BBQ chefs.

February 18, 2018 Stephen Amis' broad farce lands a few gentle barbs at modern Australian society but this likably silly romp, a sort of celebration of 'Dad Joke' humour, feels most at ease when it's just having a bit of a laugh.

February 26, 2018 The film is abysmal and it all comes down to an absolutely woeful script.

February 23, 2018 Now, where to begin with how bad this film is? In the interests of brevity, most of the film's woes stem from one main problem: it has no frigging idea what it is trying to do.

January 24, 2018 Despite its low-budget trappings, the talented cast do a great job in giving a genuine sense of compassion to their characters, delivering an uncynical rendering of the typical projected Australian image.

February 21, 2018 Jacobson may be the best thing about the director and co-writer Stephen Amis' The BBQ, though that is not the same as saying he comes even remotely close to saving it.
