Shelley began acting at age twelve on the stage of the historic 'Opera House' in his hometown of Abbeville, South Carolina. His keen interest in music led him to pick up the electric bass in high school. From there, he attended Berklee School Of Music in Boston studying music theory/arranging. In the early eighties, Shelley worked as an announcer and sales representative at radio stations in upstate South Carolina where he also played bass with the popular dance band, 'Brasstown Ball.'In 1985, Shelley went back to the Abbeville Opera House, under the direction of Michael Genevie, and eventually performed in over fifty productions. Notable roles include, 'Will Stockdale' in 'No Time For Sergeants,' 'Lloyd Dallas' in 'Noises Off' and as 'Brick' in Tennessee Williams' classic, 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.' While also working in local and regional television commercials, he caught the attention of veteran acting agent, Charlie Peterson of Harvest Talent Agency.In 1987, his big break came when he was cast by legendary film and television director Buzz Kulik as 'Cracker' opposite Rick Schroder in the CBS television movie, 'Too Young The Hero.' Feature film and television roles followed with appearances in 'Love Field' (1990), 'The Almost Perfect Bank Robbery' (1997), 'Radio' (2003) and 'Dear John' (2011).Though not yet produced, Shelley has written several screenplays including, 'Calibogue,' 'Meeting Street,' 'Simon vs. Simon,' 'Parasite,' 'The Road To Contention,' 'False Awakening,' 'A Gift For Miss Lucy,' 'Megalodon Motel,' 'Civil Forfeiture' and 'Possum Kingdom.' 'Meeting Street' was a quarter-finalist in the 2012 Final Draft 'Big Break' script competition. 'Calibogue' finished in the top fifteen percent of all scripts in the 2012 Nicholl Fellowships. More recently, 'Megalodon Motel' was a semi-finalist in the 2016 Final Draft 'Big Break' and second runner-up in the 2016 Charleston International Film Festival screenwriting competition.When not acting or writing, Shelley owns and manages radio station WZLA-FM located in Abbeville, SC.
