Perhaps best recognized as the CNN News Anchor who told viewers around the world that Diana, Princess of Wales had died. From 1993 to 1998. A broadcaster from the age of 15 in his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, he has earned some of the most prestigious international journalism awards, including the National News & Documentary Emmy, Peabody, NATPE International IRIS, CableAce, Gabriel, RTNDA, ACTRA, CANPRO Gold/Silver, Canadian Association of Broadcasters President's and Gold Ribbon Awards. Prior to joining CNN, he worked for network affiliates BCTV and CKVU TV in Vancouver, British Columbia. While at CNN, he anchored its two highest-rated news broadcasts: "Prime News" and "The World Today" as well as "World News" on CNNI. He has appeared in a number of major motion pictures and TV movies and series, including Contact (1997) and Up Close & Personal (1996). He has also worked as a composer, with his work being broadcast on CNN. He left CNN when his contract expired in 1998. He also anchored at Winnipeg radio stations CKRC and CKJS, and taught courses on News and Documentary production at the University of Winnipeg, and Red River Community College. His composing skills were put to work in 1985 to raise money to help fund the wishes of terminally and chronically ill children through the Rainbow Society. He wrote a song to comfort his grandmother, Sally White, who was dying of cancer, and, as a tribute to her, gathered local celebrities to record "The Rainbow Song" which went on to benefit the newly formed charity in her name.
